The Product

This characterful blue, orange and brown check drum shade is handmade by Quirk and brings both texture and Scottish cultural heritage to any room scheme. The bold colours and check patterning make a decorative statement during daylight hours. Come nightfall, the opacity of the fabric means that the lampshade takes on a more subtle and subdued role in silhouette form, emitting ambient mood lighting (as opposed to task lighting) above and beneath the shade.

World-renowned Harris Tweed fabric is governed by a strict law to ensure that only fabric ‘hand-woven by the islanders at their home in the Outer Hebrides, finished in the Outer Hebrides, and made from pure virgin wool dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides’ is worthy of the name and awarded the orb label from the Harris Tweed Authority. Our supplier, lampshade maker Quirk, has considerable experience working with Harris Tweed fabric to create smart, tailored drum shades and are listed as an official Harris Tweed Authority craft business. So embrace your Scottish connection or install a reminder of that fabulous trip to the Highlands and Islands by dotting them around your urban loft or modern rustic abode.

Styling Ideas?

No country house cliché or country cottage twee for us with these superlative tartan shades. Sit them right in the middle of a smart, modern interior and enjoy the tactile and visual juxtaposition of age-old heritage style with clean lines and modern materials. Harris tweed shades come into their own when textural layering is required. The Detail

The lampshade is made using genuine 100% wool Harris Tweed fabric, has a rolled edge and is lined with white, rigid, flame retardant PVC. The shade can be used for ceiling pendant fittings with the ring at the top or can be turned around for use on table or floor lamp bases and is available in three sizes:

21cm high x 30cm diameter (best for small table lamps)

30cm high x 45cm diameter (best for large table lamps or floor lamps)

21cm high x 45cm wide (best for pendant shades where a shallow shade is preferable due to restricted ceiling height)

These lampshades do not require a shade carrier and the shade comes with an adjustable plastic ring that fits directly onto the bulb carrier of your table or floor lamp base or on to your ceiling pendant fitting, ready to be screwed tight in place. Recommended bulb: max 60W or Energy Saving 15W bulb.

A translucent diffuser to cut glare from beneath pendant fittings (only) is optional. Please select this from the drop-down on the product page, prior to checkout.

An optional Harris Tweed orb label of authenticity (see detail in the product gallery) is attached to the outer side of the shade at the seam (label measures approximately 3.5cm x 6cm). Please indicate via the drop-downs on the product page, your preferred fitting type and whether you would like the orb label affixed or not (to ensure this is affixed in the correct position).
