The Product: Chartreuse cushion in ‘Webb’s Wonder’ hand-printed linen
A scenic, chartreuse cushion beautifully made from hand-printed linen. The design showcases a quintessentially English landscape surrounding a charming, Sussex Arts & Crafts house, originally designed by the architect Philip Webb.
The print was a result of a restoration project at the house with which the Rapture & Wright design studio was involved. The pattern depicts the gables, chimneys and windows of the Arts & Crafts property surrounded by mature trees and distinctive flowering shrubs in a magical, garden setting. The design is hand-printed onto soft, bleached linen in varying tones of raspberry pink. The cushions are piped in co-ordinating, plain, ‘String’ linen.
How to style your chartreuse cushion?
First of all, allow pictorial cushions to sing and really be the star on the show, on any sofa-set up. These are good sized-cushions at 50cm x 50cm. However, you often need an additional pair of secondary cushions to go behind or alongside decorative or statement cushions. These provide extra support and avoid single cushions at either end of the sofa looking lost. This is especially the case on a large, capacious piece of furniture.
Opt for muted, small-scale patterns and toning shades for the background cushions. Contrasting, textured plains or a muted stripe in a complementary shade work well with floral designs. I can see this soft chartreuse and pale blue colourway sitting pretty on an elegant, loose-covered sofa such as the ‘Jackson’ from Arlo & Jacob. Alternatively, they’d sit happily on a curvaceous Chesterfield in mid-blue velvet or tan leather. Or perhaps a clean-lined, ‘mid-century modern’ couch as here.
Never feel you have to dress your sofa with supplementary scatter cushions that match the upholstery. These are optional add-ons when buying a new, fixed-back sofa. Create an eclectic, original look by assembling your own ‘cast of cushions’ as discussed above. Buy from different fabric houses to create the perfect look and comfort level for your room scheme.
