The Product: ‘Sakori’ Japanese style wallpaper in indigo blue
This smart yet artisan-feel, Japanese style wallpaper provides a fresh take on a distinctive, timeless aesthetic. This deep, inky colourway is a perfect foil for warm, neutral schemes such as tan and cream or classic blue and white.
The Lowdown
The hand-printed wallpaper was created in-house at the Rapture & Wright studio. The design was inspired by a Japanese textile dating from the 18th century. The simple, graphic pattern was initially created as a linocut. It was subsequently transferred onto screens, ready for hand-printing and is available through us in a range of other colours.
Styling Ideas?
This small-scale Japanese style wallpaper is perfect for creating an intensely-hued backdrop, but one with more interest and movement than a plain colour wall. The horizontal lines – conjuring up a typically-Japanese aesthetic – create movement while the combination of two blue tones provides depth. The hand-printed finish lends authenticity – almost as if a skilled Japanese artist has decorated the walls with pen and ink.
This colourway could look pretty yet directional combined with Swedish or French limewashed furniture and modern, decorative accessories. It would team equally well with mid-century modern pieces in warm wood tones and tan leather upholstery. Although I would generally avoid matching the wallpaper with cushions, if you love the design but textiles are what you’re after, you’re in luck! The Detail
The wallpaper comes untrimmed and is available by the metre, at £28 per metre (minimum order 10 metres – supplied as 2 x 5-metre lengths). Please use the + sign on the product page to add the number of metres required to your basket. The wallpaper measures 52cm wide and has a 36cm repeat.
