The Product: Arts and crafts wallpaper ‘Webb’s Wonder’ in soft blues
A duck egg and Air Force blue floral wallpaper showcasing the quintessentially English landscaping surrounding a charming Arts & Crafts house in Sussex, originally designed by the architect Philip Webb.
The Lowdown
The hand-printed wallpaper was created in-house at the Rapture & Wright studio. The print was the result of a restoration project at the house with which the design studio was involved. The pattern depicts the gables, chimneys and windows of the Arts & Crafts property surrounded by mature trees and distinctive flowering shrubs in a magical, garden setting.
How to style this arts and crafts style wallpaper?
In this soft blue colourway, the design provides a brilliant foil for an elegant white-on-white scheme. First of all, soften and cosy up your space with textural layering. Hence, we’re thinking a palette of creams and off-whites encompassing velvets, linens, silks and woollens. These might take the form of cushions, upholstery, rugs, drapes or throws. Finally, ensure a directional, modern look by adding smart, clean-lined furniture to the mix. Perhaps some sleek, white tables from the likes of Heals, Designers Guild or Calligaris teamed with vintage, whitewashed-wood, French or Scandinavian sofas upholstered in soft pale linens.
In contrast, accent the soft blue pattern with gentle, pale accents. Soft, rose pinks – deeper pinks too in fact – are always winning in combination with soft duck-egg and darker teal. Likewise, layer textures to add depth.
Further, apply this elegant paper to just one end wall. In which case, meet the adjacent walls with a toning shade of blue, just a bit deeper and stronger than the paler shade in the wallpaper. This ensures the wallpaper is ’embraced’ by the adjacent walls. It stops it feeling like an afterthought or floating, slightly lost, feature wall. Remember too that bold pattern always looks twice as strong over large areas.
Finally, an all-over pattern also works brilliantly in smaller spaces such as a hallway or WC. It adds impact and helps conceal awkward curves and angles on ceilings. Gauge the scale of the design by checking out the styled shot shown in the Chartreuse colourway. Simply scroll the images.
