The Product: ‘Sakori’ Japanese pattern wallpaper hand-printed in ‘Pomegranate’
This subtly chic, Japanese pattern wallpaper provides a vibrant, warm-hued take on a distinctive, timeless aesthetic. The colourway combines two toning hues – a deep, plum colour and the red you’d generally associate with pomegranates.
The Lowdown
The hand-printed wallpaper was created in-house at the Rapture & Wright studio. The design was inspired by a Japanese textile dating from the 18th century. The simple, graphic pattern was initially created as a linocut. It was subsequently transferred onto screens, ready for hand-printing.
Styling Ideas?
This small-scale, Japanese pattern wallpaper is perfect for creating an intensely-hued backdrop, but one with more interest and movement than a plain colour wall. The horizontal lines – conjuring up a typically-Japanese aesthetic – create movement while the two red tones provide depth. The hand-printed finish lends authenticity – almost as if a skilled Japanese artist has decorated the walls with pen and ink.
This inviting colourway would look pretty yet directional combined with Swedish or French limewashed furniture and modern, decorative accessories. I can also imagine these calming, cocooning tones working very well in a study or library area. Although I would generally avoid matching the wallpaper with cushions, if you love the design but textiles are what you’re after, you’re in luck! The Detail
This elegant Japanese wallpaper comes untrimmed and is available by the metre, at £28 per metre (minimum order 2 x 5-metre lengths). Please use the + sign on the product page to add the number of metres required to your basket. The wallpaper measures 52cm wide and has a 36cm repeat.
