Heritage Dutch looks made modern
Get The Look: ‘Delft Blue Bedroom’
1. SELECT YOUR HERO PIECES
The starting point for this scheme was a beautifully elegant, Dutch Delft blue lamp base given a contemporary twist with a pale pink linen shade and colour co-ordinated pink flex. We wanted to create a scheme with a further nod to the Dutch design heritage, hence the inclusion of an Old Dutch Masters floral art canvas.
2. CHOOSE A COLOUR PALETTE & ANCHOR YOUR SCHEME
We also wanted the colour palette to feel original and unexpected so we opted for a quirky combination of jade, bubblegum pink and the Delft blue hue, given added edge with modern black lines.
3. PLAY WITH LINES, SHAPE & SILHOUETTE
Note the playful combination of shapes. The headboard and curves of the modern cane bed in a slick, ebony stain finish echo the shapely silhouette of the Delft blue lamp base. We’d place a pair of these or equivalent blue and white, decorative, lamp bases either side of the double bed on smart night stands.
4. LAYER MATERIALS & TEXTURES
Straight lines in the wide stripe wallpaper, the modern bed’s design and the rectangular wall art canvas are tempered by the soft, tactile handle of washed linen bedding in a restful, forest green and the luxurious silk Ikat cushions.
