The Product: ‘Sakori’ Japanese wallpaper hand-printed in ‘Midori’ green

This subtly chic, Japanese wallpaper provides a fresh, verdant take on a distinctive, timeless aesthetic. The colourway is named after Midori – the uniquely-hued liqueur of the same name, also incidentally manufactured in Japan amongst other places. However, this lush colourway – a combination of evergreen and deciduous hues – also makes think of Japanese-inspired forest bathing and the practice of outdoor calm and being at one with nature!

The Lowdown

The hand-printed wallpaper was created in-house at the Rapture & Wright studio. The design was inspired by a Japanese textile dating from the 18th century. The simple, graphic pattern was initially created as a linocut. It was subsequently transferred onto screens, ready for hand-printing.

Styling Ideas?

This small-scale wallpaper is perfect for creating an intensely-hued backdrop, but one with more interest and movement than a plain colour wall. The horizontal lines – conjuring up a typically-Japanese aesthetic – create movement while the combination of two green tones provides depth. The hand-printed finish lends authenticity – almost as if a skilled Japanese artist has decorated the walls with pen and ink.

This fresh, invigorating colourway could look pretty yet directional combined with Swedish or French limewashed furniture and modern, decorative accessories. It would team equally well with mid-century modern pieces in warm wood tones and tan leather upholstery. Although I would generally avoid matching the wallpaper with cushions, if you love the design but textiles are what you’re after, you’re in luck! The Detail

This elegant Japanese wallpaper comes untrimmed and is available by the metre, at £28 per metre (minimum order 2 x 5-metre lengths). Please use the + sign on the product page to add the number of metres required to your basket. The wallpaper measures 52cm wide and has a 36cm repeat.
