The Product: Modern Chinese motif wallpaper
Bold, new wallpaper in a chocolate, indigo and lime colourway by interior designer Fleur Ward of Ohh! Fleur wallpapers, ‘Fan of Junk’ offers strident colour and a whimsical take on historic, cultural symbols of Asia. The Lowdown
The designer has juxtaposed function and frivolity whilst celebrating the aesthetic similarities of unfurled sails and a pleated fan. The English name ‘Junk’ comes from the Javanese word ‘Djong’ which translates as ‘ship’ or ‘large vessel’.
Styling Ideas?
When we first spied this wallpaper print at a trade fair, we were drawn to the modernity of the design and the pop culture colourways. This particular ‘Junk’ would go down a storm (actually it wouldn’t – Chinese Junks were super-sturdy and designed for heavy seas – ha!) in a cosy, enveloping space such as a winter sitting room, snug or study. The Detail
The modern Chinoiserie wallpaper comes on a 10m long roll, measures 52cm wide. Horizontal repeat is 26cm. Vertical repeat is 24cm.
