The Product: Dark Chinoiserie wallpaper in purple, lime & indigo
‘Fan of Junk’ offers strident colour and a whimsical take on historic, cultural symbols of Asia. A bold, new wallpaper by interior designer Fleur Ward of Ohh! Fleur, the design depicts sturdy, stylised Chinese Junks in full sail alongside delicate, decorative, paper fans. Dark Chinoiserie wallpaper with a decidely modern aesthetic.
The Lowdown
The designer has juxtaposed function and frivolity whilst celebrating the aesthetic similarities of unfurled sails and a pleated fan. The English name ‘Junk’ comes from the Javanese word ‘Djong’ which translates as ‘ship’ or ‘large vessel’.
Styling Ideas?
When we first spied this wallpaper print at a trade fair, we were drawn to the modernity of the design and the pop culture colourways. We’d use this wallpaper as we would dark paint shades on a wall. As a dramatic backdrop for upholstered furniture – a pale-hued velvet sofa for example – along with a selection of artwork and mirrors to contrast with the colour, scale and pattern of the wallpaper print.
