The Product: Blue glazed ceramic pot handmade in Thailand.
This elegant, blue glazed ceramic pot displays a typically Thai, urn-shaped silhouette. A pair of these hand-thrown pots would grace a mantlepiece beautifully. Creating a great still life display, on a shelf or sideboard, for example, is all about contrast. Both of shape and material. Hence, one of these pots would be a brilliant addition with its sinuous curves redolent of the Thai pottery tradition.
The Lowdown
These pots were made in a small, ceramics studio on the outskirts on Chiangmai in northern Thailand. Exploring rows and rows of unique, handmade pots in the jungle heat was an absolute pleasure (despite being bitten alive by mosquitoes) and some of the vibrant glazes we came across were breath-taking! These are in a calm, sky blue with a crackle-glazed finish. The footed base lends elegance and poise.
Styling Ideas?
Leave empty to admire their shapely form or style up with sculptural dried flowers or seed pods found on a country walk. Add a single stem of a matching blue or pale green mop-head hydrangea for a beautiful hall table. We can’t state these pots are vases as they don’t come with this certification but we held water in them for a number of weeks with no seeping/leaks and they appear fully glazed on the inside. Head to Oka for some impressive faux flowers if you’d rather not risk it! Alternatively, check out our TS Styles feature on the blog about grouping and displaying Asian pottery in a modern bathroom.
