The Product: Chartreuse design Kashmiri crewelwork cushion
These chartreuse design, crewelwork cushions from Kashmir feel eclectic yet modern. We love the trailing, leaf-frond design. A stylish, nature-inspired motif. The cushions are made from a hand-embroidered panel of Kashmiri crewelwork, sourced in India.
The Lowdown
It’s always a delight when we open a box of samples for our photoshoots. Often, designs were selected months previously. Chosen for looks and style? Yes. But also for quality, originality and a fascinating, authentic backstory. These crewelwork cushions from Samarkand Design do not disappoint. They are beautifully handmade. A decorative panel of neatly hand-embroidered, Indian, crewelwork adorns the front. The reverse is made using sturdy, co-ordinating cream cotton. This same cotton is also used for the piping.
Styling Ideas?
We love the eclectic, ethnic-inspired feel of these cushions. Their tailored looks mean they are equally at home in relaxed, ‘boho’ surroundings and smart, elegant drawing-rooms.
First, the textural nature of crewel-work contrasts well with plain velvet or linen-look upholstery fabric. This would work on both traditional and contemporary furniture styles. Try Heals, Made.com or Arlo & Jacob for a good range of sofa silhouettes. In our photography, these cushions adorn a boldly striped sofa, upholstered in a Roger Oates fabric.
Never feel you must dress your sofa with supplementary scatter cushions to match upholstery. Often, these are optional add-ons when buying a new sofa. Always, create an original look. Even more, assemble your own ‘cast of cushions’. Buy from different fabric houses. Create the perfect look and comfort level.
