The Product: Kashmiri cream and grey handmade crewelwork cushions
These cream and grey handmade crewelwork cushions from Kashmir are both smart and eclectic. The cushions are made from a hand-embroidered panel of Kashmiri crewelwork, sourced in India. The lattice pattern will add texture and detail to any sofa, armchair or bed.
The Lowdown
It’s always a delight when we open a box of samples for our photoshoots. Often, designs were selected months previously. Chosen for looks and style? Yes. But also for quality, originality and a fascinating, authentic backstory. These crewel-work cushions from Samarkand Design do not disappoint. They are beautifully handmade. A decorative panel of neatly hand-embroidered, Indian, crewel-work adorns the front. The reverse is made using sturdy, coordinating cream cotton. This same cotton is also used for the piping.
Styling Ideas?
We love the eclectic, ethnic-inspired feel of these cushions. Their tailored looks means they are equally at home in relaxed, ‘boho’ surroundings and smart, elegant drawing-rooms.
First, the textural nature of crewel-work contrasts well with plain velvet or linen-look upholstery. Pale grey and white work particularly well with mossy green, raspberry or navy to airforce blue upholstery fabric. The Detail
The cushion measures 50cm x 50cm. The plain cotton reverse conceals a discreet zip. The cushion comes with a duck-feather-filled pad. Dry clean only.
