The Product: ‘Bubble’ glass and ceramic display domes
Diminutive, glass display domes are a brilliant solution for showcasing treasured objects, found on your travels. The perfect miniature gallery for a collection of woodland feathers, small figurines or, as here – click to the next picture – sentimental items that jog a memory. Our daughter’s adorable first ‘shoes’! We were living in Thailand at the time. We found them at the wonderfully atmospheric ‘walking market’ (or night market) in Thailand’s fabulous second city, Chiangmai. They’d be in a box somewhere if they weren’t displayed in this little glass bubble for everyone to ‘Ooh!’ and ‘Ahhh!’ at.
The Lowdown
In fact, the domes themselves were hand-crafted in Thailand by our favourite Bangkok potter Karin Phisolyabut. Click on the link to read all about his magical Yarnnakarn workshop/studio deep in the ‘sois’ or streets of that – quiet for now – but usually crazy, wonderful, bustling and beeping city.
How to style your glass display domes?
The domes work well as part of a still-life arrangement of decorative objects. For instance, on built-in or wall-hung shelves or on a sturdy sideboard. The glass adds sparkle and therefore textural contrast – a key element of any successful display. The glass domes, available in large or small sizes, sit on elegant, white, glazed ceramic bases.
