Quirky and unusual in shape and form, this eye-catching vase represents one look from a vast heritage of traditional, hand-painted pottery styles across Portugal.
How to style your vintage Portuguese pots?
I would team this cheerful, painted, Portuguese pottery with sleek, modern bedside tables or style it on smart, contemporary shelving for a juxtaposition of styles. I happened to stand these on my children’s Lego table and rather liked the somewhat incongruous but very pleasing (and matchy !) effect. So, I snapped them on it.
The Detail
The larger, yellow floral pot (with a green bird on the reverse) measures 20cm tall x 15cm wide x 5cm deep NOW SOLD. The red rose floral (with a red bird on the reverse) measures 17cm tall x 13cm wide x 4cm deep. The pot is stamped by the manufacturer and the red floral/bird pot is dated with a hand-painted ‘1958’. The remaining pot is in excellent condition (bar one tiny, barely noticeable chip in the yellow rim of the red floral/bird pot plus a repair to the same pot’s foot – this is invisible when the pot is upright).
