The Product: Vintage lampshade with red hand embroidery
This miniature, vintage lampshade was created using a length of hand-embroidered, hill-tribe dress cloth from Chiangmai in northern Thailand. The panel of embroidery was of minimal width, so, we decided to create these ‘cute-as-a-button’ mini drum lampshades, perfect for petite, antique or modern table lamp bases.
The Lowdown
Drum shades such as these provide a gentle, pool of atmospheric light directed up and down, as opposed to a directional task light. Simply lined with white, fire-retardant PVC, the vintage lampshade fabric will glow when illuminated, throwing the stitch detailing into sharp relief thereby creating a different pattern come nightfall. Use small, low-energy bulbs to reduce heat generation (25-watt max).
How to style your vintage lampshade?
This pretty, little vintage lampshade would look super as part of a display on a side table or within a tall shelving unit. Alternatively, add decorative impact in a corner of your bedroom, dressing room or home office. Decorative shades provide a talking point and add colour and culture – with their typically South East Asian pattern design – to any living space.
The Detail
The miniature drum lampshade in red and neutral measures 20cm in diameter x 15cm in height (as shown here). We currently have two of these lampshades in stock. Please note these lampshades showcase locally-sourced, South East Asian textiles and as such, there may be slight imperfections in the weave. This is all part of their appeal.
