The Product: Bird of prey print of a Sparrowhawk
A captivating and energetic bird of prey print of a Sparrowhawk rendered digitally by wildlife artist Talia Giles. This portrait is one of a growing collection of Great British Birds designed by the artist and amongst whom number the Red-Legged Partridge and the Pheasant, both available through us at Telescope Style.
The Lowdown
Talia starts with a series of photographs of each animal which she then combines and manipulates to create the perfect portrait pose, almost humanlike. Next, she digitally draws a complex net of triangles which form the base of the geometric image. Smaller, denser collections of triangles are used where more detail is required. Once the net is complete, each and every triangle is coloured individually to add depth, light and shade. Finally, background colours are trialled to set the mood and allow the character to come alive. On close inspection, these digital artworks are breathtaking in their detail.
Styling Ideas?
These artworks look equally striking in an industrial, urban loft setting as in a ‘modern-rustic’, rural abode. Depending on your backdrop, you may want to choose a pale frame to in effect ‘disappear’. A modern, white frame against the mount and white/pale walls will, for example, allow the bird image to leap out from the wall. Alternatively, you may opt to outline the artwork with a strong line to create definition or a boundary between the Sparrowhawk and, say, a busy all-over wallpaper. If this is your preference, go for a slim, warm-hued wooden frame to enhance the artwork’s earthy palette.
The Detail
Print Info & Sizing: The Sparrowhawk bird of prey print is available in two sizes: A1, measuring 84.1cm x 59.4cm; and, A2, measuring 59.4cm x 42cm and comes rolled and ready for framing. All print measurements include a white border. Archival quality giclée prints on white, textured paper – Hahnemuhle Matt Photo Rag, 308g – will last up to 200 years without fading, kept in the right conditions.
For best conservation of the bird of prey print, acid-free mounts and backing should be used when framing to protect the paper from discolouration over time. We recommend using a framer who is Fine Art Trade Guild (FATG) certified.
