The Product: Multi-coloured mini cushions with Australian Aboriginal art prints
These multi-coloured mini cushions are handmade from indigenous Australian Aboriginal art prints on linen, teamed with a jaunty, piped trim. The designs themselves depict the plants, bush foods and medicines through the changing light of the day and the seasons, central to the ancient, indigenous Australian culture and lifestyle.
The Lowdown
The pink print cushion (with orange piped trim) was created from original artwork by indigenous Australian Aboriginal artist Betty Pula Morton. The Spring green cushion (with turquoise piped trim) and the orange cushion (with burgundy piped trim) were both designed by another indigenous Australian Aboriginal artist, Rosie Ngwarraye Ross. The original canvases were re-scaled for fabric by specialist art & design studio Bay Gallery Home. The studio supports indigenous Aboriginal communities by ensuring a proportion of sales go back to the artists. Hence, this helps maintain the artists’ connections with their indigenous lands.
