The Lowdown

The chic, linen black and white cushions print was designed by Rapture & Wright and inspired by a fragment of decorative glazed pottery from 14th century Syria. The pattern is hand-printed onto soft, bleached linen. Cushions are piped in coordinating, plain, ‘String’ linen.

How to style the black and white Iznik cushions?

Firstly, decorative, rectangular cushions work well on plain-upholstered occasional or accent chairs. They provide pattern and colour. They are also great for lumbar support. Check the available space to ensure the cushion fits comfortably across the back of your seat. High-backed, wing chairs or capacious, modern side chairs are good candidates.

Secondly, combine a pair of square cushions with others in toning or contrasting plain and patterned fabrics. This will add textural contrast and help create a relaxed, informal look. I can imagine this design dressing a simple, elegant, loose-covered sofa such as the ‘Jackson’ from Arlo & Jacob. Alternatively, they’d sit happily on a curvaceous, velvet sofa.

Top tip! Never feel you have to dress your sofa with supplementary scatter cushions that match the upholstery fabric alone. These are usually optional add-ons when buying a new, fixed-back sofa. You can achieve an eclectic, original look by creating your own ‘cast of cushions.’ Assemble a variety of styles from different fabric houses in complementary or contrasting hues.

The Detail

The square black and white cushions measure 50cm x 50cm. The rectangular versions measure 30cm x 50cm. They come with co-ordinating, plain piping, a feather pad, and a concealed zip. Dry clean only. See other colourways here for made-up cushion imagery.
