The Product: Red Chinoiserie wallpaper with a modern twist
Bold, new wallpaper in scarlet and sky blue by interior designer Fleur Ward of Ohh! Fleur wallpapers, ‘Fan of Junk’ offers strident colour and a whimsical take on historic, cultural symbols of Asia. Modern, red Chinoiserie wallpaper depicting a sturdy, Chinese Junk in full sail and a delicate, decorative fan.
The Lowdown
The designer has juxtaposed function and frivolity whilst celebrating the aesthetic similarities of unfurled sails and a pleated fan. The English name ‘Junk’ comes from the Javanese word ‘Djong’ which translates as ‘ship’ or ‘large vessel’.
Styling Ideas?
When we first spied this wallpaper print at a trade fair, we were drawn to the modernity of the design and the pop culture colourways. This particular ‘Junk’ would go down a storm (actually it wouldn’t – Chinese Junks were super-sturdy and designed for heavy seas – ha!) in small spaces such as fun & funky downstairs loos or cloakrooms, or alternatively in a dramatic, high-ceilinged dining area as a feature paper.
